Which Sourdough Kit Is Right for Me?
Start with what you already own and what you’d like help with. You might need a baking pot and proofing basket, a setup for looking after your starter, or a bread knife and slicing guide for the finished loaf. Our sourdough kits cover different parts of the process, so you can choose the tools you’ll actually use.
Dutch Oven Kits
Choose a Dutch oven kit if you need a cast iron baking vessel alongside proofing and dough-handling tools. Our Simple Crust kits bring together baking essentials, while Complete Crust kits include a bread knife and additional accessories. Check each listing for the full contents and available options.

Banneton Kits
Already have a suitable baking pot? A banneton kit adds proofing baskets and useful accessories without another Dutch oven. Choose round baskets for round loaves, oval baskets for longer loaves, or a combination if you enjoy baking both.

Starter & Care Kits
These sets focus on preparing and looking after your sourdough starter, dough or equipment. Choose according to the task you need help with, and check the listing carefully - a starter jar kit does not necessarily include sourdough starter.
Bread Knife & Slicer Sets
These sets bring together tools for cutting and serving your bread. A bread knife paired with a slicing guide can help you cut more even slices for toast, sandwiches and sharing around the table.
Are Sourdough Kits Suitable for Beginners?
Many of our kits are useful for beginners, but they serve different purposes. If you’re starting from scratch, consider how you’ll care for your starter, mix and proof your dough, and bake your loaf. You’ll also need recipe ingredients and an active starter, unless these are specifically included in your chosen kit.
You don’t need every tool at once. Choose a set that fills the gaps in your kitchen, then build from there as you discover what works for you.
Choosing a Gift for a Bread Baker
A sourdough kit makes a thoughtful, practical gift. For someone just getting started, look for a set that supports their first bakes. For an experienced baker, consider a different basket shape, a bread knife set or tools that complement what they already own.
At The Sourdough Kitchen, we choose our range through real home use and share practical advice along the way. If you’re unsure which kit to choose, get in touch - we’re happy to help.
